Swedish massage is a gentle full-body massage involving long, kneading, rhythmic tapping, friction, and mobilization of the joints. Swedish physiologist Per Henrik Ling codified the treatment during the early 19th century as a way to soothe the muscles, stimulate circulation of the blood, and general well-being
Compared to more intrusively invasive forms of therapy such as Deep Tissue Massage, Swedish Massage employs light to moderate pressure, and is thus a soothing and rejuvenating treat for body and mind.
TECHNIQUES:
EFFLEURAGE – Slow, warm strokes to prepare the body, improve circulation, and relax superficial muscles.
PETRISSAGE – Kneading and squeezing of muscles to relax and stimulate circulation.
TAPOTEMANT– Cupping or pounding rhythmically to stimulate body and alert body.
FRICTION – Deep circular with palms or thumbs used to release knots and adhesions.
VIBRATION– Shaking or trembling stroke delivered lightly to relax nervous system and muscles.
